Quilts of Valor Presentation 2013
Country Traditions Quilters' Cover 12 Heroes' Hearts
As quilters, we have a part of us that want to comfort as many people as we can. Most of the time, we are happy with giving a baby quilt to a new mother, a table runner to newlyweds, or a quilt for a graduation gift. This past year we were able to bring thousand of quilters together to comfort our Veterans, through the Quilts of Valor foundation.
Country Traditions is honored to be involved in the Quilts of Valor Foundation since 2011. The store hosted a Under our Wings sewing event, which was part of a documentary for the Iowa Public Broadcasting. During the event store paired a "rookie" quilter with a more experience "coach" quilter to piece and quilt beautiful quilts. We completed and presented 22 quilts during that event.
In 2012, Country Traditions sent out a challenge at the International Quilt Study Center, for quilters to make flag blocks for the Quilts of Valor program. Throughout the year we collected the blocks. WOW!!! Our quilters delivered more than 2,000 blocks. We were able to take those gorgeous blocks and design 12 Stellar Quilts for a few of our nation's heroes. On August 18, 2013, we were honored to present these quilts to a few brave men and women after the Salute to Our Heroes Parade featuring the Budweiser Clydesdales team in Fremont, Nebraska.Read More
